Egistec fingerprint sensors to be integrated in new Samsung smartphones

Egis Technology (Egistec) has received fingerprint sensor orders for integration into Samsung’s A-5 series of smartphones, according to a report by DigiTimes.

Meanwhile, fellow East Asian fingerprint technology provider Goodix Technology is expanding its market reach in China with the release of its touchscreen controller and fingerprint sensor bundle sales strategy.

Both fingerprint technology firms are expected to significantly grow shipments of their fingerprint sensors in the fourth quarter, according to the sources cited in the report.

The fingerprint sensors market is positioned for expansion due to a wider selection of applications including notebooks, tablets, payment machines, industrial and automotive electronics.

Other China- and Taiwan-based IC design firms including FocalTech Systems, Elan Microelectronics, Holtek Semiconductor, Silead and SuperC Touch are all preparing for the fingerprint market growth.

Previously reported, Egis Technology Inc. submitted and passed the FIDO Certification Program with their UAF and U2F products, including YuKey UAF Authenticator APK, YuKey UAF Client + UAF ASM/Authenticator APK, and YuKey U2F Authenticator.
