CrucialTec introduces BTP Mouse, an optical mouse with fingerprint scanner

Fingerprint module maker CrucialTec has developed an optical computer mouse equipped with a fingerprint scanner called the Biometric TrackPad, or BTP Mouse.

The BTP Mouse has a fingerprint scanner on its left button, which allows for quick and easy authentication using the index finger.

According to a report in The Korea Herald, a CrucialTec official said, “CrucialTech’s new product, dubbed the Biometric TrackPad, or BTP Mouse, will be a good solution to strengthen security and further vitalize online financial transactions.”

As fintech development gains momentum, security and authentication solutions have become essential to protecting data and because online financial transactions in Korea do not require the use of digital authentication certificates, CrucialTec expects new authentication measures such as the BTP Mouse to gain widespread adoption in the country.

CrucialTec supplies fingerprint modules to global smartphone manufacturers including LG Electronics, Huawei, Xiaomi and Sony and according to the company its biometric modules are installed in a total of 45 smartphone models.
