Gemalto releases multimodal biometric ID solution
Gemalto has released CABIS 7, a multimodal biometric identification solution designed to enable law enforcement and other government agencies to conduct biometrics-based identity searches with improved speed, accuracy and efficiency.
The company also launched CABIS Core Cloud engine, expanding the support scope of Cogent’s flagship CABIS portfolio to include flexible and scalable cloud architecture.
In May, Gemalto formally completed its acquisition of 3M’s Identity Management Business, 3M Cogent.
CABIS 7 is the first major product release since Gemalto acquired Cogent. Key improvements incorporated in the new version of the identification tool include true multimodal capability, integrating fingerprint, palm print, face, iris and latent images.
As a result, operators have access to a broader range of biometric input data and database records in order to obtain reliable identification and verification matches.
The core architecture and platform improvements also enable a 30 percent decrease in setup time as compared to previous versions, as well as future proofs a customer’s investment.
CABIS 7 also features a completely re-designed user interface, which significantly improves the solution’s usability.
CABIS Core Cloud is a cloud-based backend solution that ensures that operating costs always represent actual usage due to the elastic and scalable nature of cloud computing.
This eliminates the need for an upfront investment in infrastructure, based on estimated future use, as well as reduces an ongoing focus on internal IT resources.

Earlier this month, Gemalto announced that Chief Financial Officer Jacques Tierny is leaving the company to pursue other activities.
