Onfido to verify users of Dutch car-sharing platform SnappCar

Identity verification provider Onfido has partnered with Dutch car-sharing platform SnappCar to verify its users in The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Germany. Onfido has a growing roster of clients in the P2P car sharing space, including Drivy, BlaBlaCar, EasyCar and Turo.

SnappCar launched in 2011 and now services 400,000 users in four countries across Europe. The platform enables car owners to recoup the cost of their vehicle by renting it out when it would otherwise sit unused.

According to the announcement, SnappCar partnered with Onfido to support its plans for further international expansion. Onfido’s technology will help SnappCar grow by verifying the identities of users signing up to the platform in a rapid and robust way. SnappCar users simply upload a photo of an identity document to complete the verification process, allowing more people to join the service more quickly.

Onfido can accept 600 document types from 195 countries and uses machine learning technology to validates a user’s identity document and compare it with their facial biometrics. The identity can then be cross-referenced against international credit and watchlist databases.

“Onfido improves the speed of our identity verification process. They enable us to be much more flexible in adapting the verification criteria, which means a better verification experience for our international userbase,” explaimed Erica Rasch, Product Owner at SnappCar.

Cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp recently selected identity verification provider Onfido to help it scale and onboard new customers.
