Onfido has appointed David Clarke as Chief Financial Officer as it continues its global expansion. Onfido uses machine learning and facial biometrics to automate the identity verification process.

Clarke was most recently CFO of digital payments company Skrill Group. Prior to this, he held the position of CFO at Lebara Mobile, and spent a decade as CFO EMEA at PayPal. He will be based in London, where he will oversee the company’s financial management, manage investor relations, and help to drive organic and inorganic global expansion.

“We’ve spent the past six years building products to solve online identity,” said Onfido’s co-founder and COO, Eamon Jubbawy. “Having established ourselves as the global leader in our space, we were in a position to bring David, one of the world’s most respected CFOs, onto our team. We’re privileged that he decided to join us on our journey and have exciting plans ahead.”

Last September it was reported that Onfido had raised $30 million for its AI-based identity verification technology. That round was led by Crane Venture Partners, with participation from Microsoft Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and existing backers and is being used for international expansion and to build out the company’s 150-strong team and product offering.

In November the company added new talent in key executive roles including Kevin Trilli as Chief Product Officer, Andy Wilde as Chief Technical Officer, Andy Leaver as Chief Revenue Officer and Lila Tretikov as an Independent Board Director.

Onfido works with over 1,500 companies globally across industries such as banking and financial services, e-commerce and the sharing economy. Headquartered in London, the company also has offices in San Francisco, New York, Lisbon, Delhi and Singapore.
