Qualcomm pre-integrates Android P with Snapdragon mobile platforms

Qualcomm Technologies has implemented the soon-to-be-released Android P with its Snapdragon 845, 660, and 636 Mobile Platforms to allow OEMs using them to upgrade to Android P when it is launched, according to an announcement.

The joint effort is intended to expand global availability, and make the operating system’s new enhancements available more quickly. The Android P developer preview includes a unified API with a single permission call for face, iris, and in-display fingerprint sensor authentication. The Snapdragon 845 features a secure processing unit (SPU) intended to secure biometric transactions.

“We are excited to work with Google to pre-integrate our software with Android P, making it production ready for OEMs,” said Mike Genewich, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Through our strengthened relationship, Google and Qualcomm Technologies are set to expand the market for Android and make it easier for OEMs to launch devices based on Snapdragon mobile platforms.”

Manufacturers including Xiaomi, vivo, Sony Mobile, OPPO, and OnePlus have announced plans to release devices with the Android P developer preview, the announcement says.

Android P is expected to become available later this year.
