In-display fingerprint sensor featured in new Xiaomi Mi, in-display coming to Samsung Galaxy S10
On the heels of Synaptics’ announcement of the integration of its in-display fingerprint sensor in the new Xiaomi Mi8 family, Goodix has announced that its fingerprint sensors are also featured in Xiaomi’s Mi8 flagship smartphones, including its “IN-DISPLAY FINGERPRINT SENSOR.” The Mi8 and smaller Mi8 SE feature rear-mounted fingerprint sensors from Goodix.
The field for in-display fingerprint options in smartphones is becoming crowded, as Android Authority reports (via ETNews) that Samsung has confirmed to partners that it will integrate an in-display fingerprint sensor under the Samsung Display glass, reportedly for the Galaxy S10 rather than the Galaxy Note 9.
Goodix says its optical in-display sensor is the only one on the market which can be successfully applied to both rigid and flexible OLED displays, and that it works with wet fingers, ambient light, and in extremely low temperatures. The company claims this will be the first year for large scale commercialization of smartphones with in-display fingerprint technology.
Huawei’s “PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI” Mate RS features Goodix in-display fingerprint sensor, as does the vivo X21. The X21 UD, on the other hand, includes an in-display sensor from Synaptics.
