Signicat integrates Belgian eID itsme to extend digital identity service across Europe

Signicat has partnered with Belgian Mobile ID to integrate the itsme digital identity scheme with its Digital Identity Platform, enabling Belgian financial institutions, online retailers, and other businesses to attract new customers and seamlessly engage with existing ones, according to an announcement.

Belgian companies can offer frictionless customer onboarding, ongoing, advanced user authentication, electronic signing and preservation of legal agreements through the integration, as well as comply with AML and KYC regulations and GDPR. The integration also allows businesses throughout Europe to accept itsme as mobile ID, and allows Belgian citizens to access services from those businesses.

“Being able to on-board and keep digital customers is becoming increasingly important for businesses, especially with offerings that require a level of trust beyond a functional credit card. Our work with Belgian Mobile ID means that we can streamline customer onboarding and ongoing engagement for organizations looking to build trusted digital relationships with customers in Belgium,” said Gunnar Nordseth, CEO, Signicat. “The integration of itsme into the Signicat platform further means that businesses across Europe can quickly and securely on-board Belgian customers, digitally, in minutes – and have trust in their identities – without any need for excessive paperwork.”

Signicat will also become a value-added reseller of itsme under the agreement. With the partnership the company says it now connects more than 20 eID schemes globally, including in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and The Netherlands. Freja eID, which is developed by Verisec, was added by Signicat earlier this month. Signicat also recently boosted its onboarding capabilities through a partnership with Mitek.

“Partnering with Signicat means that Belgian citizens now have access to a wide range of services from across Europe, effectively making itsme a cross-border digital ID scheme,” said Kris De Ryck, CEO of Belgian Mobile ID. “The cooperation with Signicat offers interesting perspectives to expand the reach of itsme in Europe.”

The identity scheme was launched a year ago, and recently reached 350,000 users and 1 million transactions per month.
