Gemalto launches biometric trusted ID platform for mobile operators

Gemalto has launched an orchestration tool it bills as a one-stop services platform for providing the capture, verification, and authentication of customer credentials and biometrics for digital mobile subscriber enrollment.

The Gemalto Trusted Digital Identity Services Platform enables mobile network operators to efficiently process customer enrollment while complying with anti-fraud regulations, the company says. Customer personal details are captured, along with biometrics, leveraging Gemalto’s portfolio of identity technologies, including fingerprint and facial recognition with liveness detection. Personal information is automatically extracted from documents in a fast process that minimizes errors, and the information is verified by the platform in real time, according to the announcement. Third-party information checks can also be integrated if necessary.

The Trusted Digital Identity created through the enrollment process can then be used for seamless and secure access to new services in a “create once, use many times” model MNO’s can use to improve customer experience.

“Anti-fraud regulations, the search for more streamlined processes, and customer expectations of convenient experience across all onboarding channels are driving the trend for digitalization of customer enrollment,” says Gemalto Senior Vice President, Embedded Software, Mobile & IoT Services Guillaume Lafaix. “What sets Gemalto apart is our ability to orchestrate a highly personalized solution, capturing the identity characteristics required by each particular MNO, addressing relevant legislation, and integrating all the technologies and services needed.”

Gains by its identity segment have driven earnings increases at Gemalto, even as the company works to bring its biometric payment card products to the mass market.
