OneVisage and Orbbec partner to offer smartphone makers 3D facial recognition

 

OneVisage has partnered with 3D camera company Orbbec to provide 3D facial recognition modules and solutions for OEM authentication systems, the companies announced at Mobile World Congress 2019.

The solutions combine the structured light technology of Orbbec’s Astra depth cameras and OneVisage’s 3D facial authentication software. OneVisage says the technology is the first with a combination of depth and color information for 3D facial authentication to be demonstrated, and that it authenticates users smoothly and accurately.

“Orbbec is well known for having the largest suite of 3D cameras on the market, and working with OneVisage will help Orbbec as we grow in the area of facial identification, which will allow for practical uses such as detailed facial and body scanning, close range SLAM, and more,” says Orbbec Director of Sales Agnes Zheng.

OneVisage launched a 3D facial recognition product for standard smartphones at MWC 2015. Makers of 3D cameras and biometric software are piling into the smartphone OEM market to meet rising demand for 3D facial recognition in smartphones.
