Certification process underway in Asia for biometric cards with IDEX sensors

IDEX Biometrics announced today that the Bank Card Test Center (BCTC) in China has begun its certification process for biometric smart cards containing IDEX’s dual-interface fingerprint sensors. BCTC was established in 1998 and is an independent third-party testing house for the financial services industry.

Biometric cards using IDEX’s SmartFinger dual-interface sensor have been manufactured by multiple, well-known card integrators in the region including Sian Intelligent Technology and Chutian Dragon.

It is expected that the certification process will be completed in the third quarter of 2019.

“This adds to the growing list of global payment schemes certifying biometric smart cards with IDEX technology,” says Stan Swearingen, CEO of IDEX Biometrics. “I’m more confident than ever that biometric smart cards are poised for mass adoption. IDEX, with its industry-leading technology, will be the partner of choice for card integrators looking to achieve high-quality biometric solutions for their customers.”

Swearingen recently penned a guest post for Biometric Update discussing how Asia is currently driving the charge for biometric payment card innovation.

According to the company’s recent annual report, IDEX is poised for biometric smart card growth having established a volume production supply chain, expanded its direct sales capacity, and formed global partnerships to bring its fingerprint sensors to the card market.
