Goodix acquires NXP voice solutions to strengthen mobile and IoT market position
Goodix has announced it is acquiring NXP Semiconductors Voice and Audio Solutions (VAS) assets to extend its biometric capabilities to the voice channel, after the companies reached a definitive transaction agreement.
Relevant NXP intellectual properties and an industry-leading engineering team with employees based in Europe and Asia are included in the deal, according to the announcement. NXP’s smart amplifier solutions and voice and audio hardware and software products for leading smartphone manufacturers and IoT applications will be added to Goodix product portfolio to strengthen its positions in the mobile and IoT markets.
“The acquisition represents a strategic move in Goodix’s growth plan,” says David Zhang, CEO, Goodix. “The transaction will enhance our existing mobile and IoT product lines, significantly strengthen our R&D capabilities in audio applications such as hearables, allowing us to offer our customers a more comprehensive portfolio and accelerate Goodix’s strategic development via innovation.”
Goodix says the acquisition reflects its commitment to becoming a global comprehensive innovator of semiconductors.
In July, Goodix filed an intellectual property dispute with Egis in the Beijing Intellectual Property Court alleging key protected technologies for in-display fingerprint sensors had been used without license.
NXP has been making progress with its fingerprint solutions business, recently receiving a CAST certificate from Microsoft for its secure processing module for biometric smart cards.
