Industry experts share business fears with Biometrics Institute

“What keeps you awake at night?” the Biometrics Institute asked a number of industry stakeholders at a recent event, and a video featuring a series of responses has been produced to foster conversation within the industry.

The public image of biometrics, misinformation about the technology’s accuracy and uses, and public perception of privacy risks are among the worries expressed by representatives from various biometrics companies.

Representatives from Leidos, Sita, iProov, and OVD Kinegram share their thoughts in the video, which was shared on Twitter with the hashtag “#Justbecausewecanshouldwe.”

The need for proportional and appropriate use, data protection, increased engagement from national testing bodies, and communication which is transparent, honest, and clear are articulated as things the industry needs to work on. Engagement with governments, which have historically held identity data, is identified as a way to gain public trust, while collaboration could help promote rapid uptake of the technology.

The Biometrics Institute published a guide to presentation attack detection (PAD) and liveness in August.
