Smart home facial recognition camera and fingerprint locks launched for U.S. consumers

Several new biometrics-based consumer devices have been introduced to the U.S. market for smart home and smart lock applications, as businesses seek to take advantage of increasing comfort with biometric technologies among many consumers.

Outdoor security camera

Imaging company blurams has launched an outdoor security camera with facial recognition which can be integrated with personal digital assistant Alexa for smart home applications.

The company says blurams cloud can perform real-time face detection and recognition in milliseconds with artificial intelligence. All blurams cloud subscriptions come with AI facial recognition capabilities at no extra cost, and the company is currently offering a free one-month trial of its cloud storage and biometrics.

The Outdoor Pro Camera-1080p offers full HD, 129 degrees field of view live stream, and starlight night vision, according to the announcement. The biometric function can recognize up to 16 people, who can be identified in an associated app, and can provide alerts if a family member or stranger is identified. The camera can be integrated with Alexa, person alerts, and two-way audio, and can be paired with Apple Watch, iPhone, and Android smartphones.

“There are a lot of security cameras in the market, but we are more concerned about how to improve the comfort of people and serve customers more efficiently and intelligently, so we launched the blurams Outdoor Pro Camera,” says blurams Co-founder and CEO Domingo Deng.

The camera is weather resistant with an IP65 waterproof rating, and activates siren and strobe light effects to deter strangers. The camera is retailing for $78.99.

Fingerprint padlocks

The new BenjiLock by Hampton Fingerprint Padlocks have been launched to commercial availability at b8ta retail locations, combining strength and design for people who need to keep belongings safe and secure on-the-go without the hassle of carrying keys or remembering combinations, according to the announcement.

A prototype of the BenjiLock was seen on ABC’s “Shark Tank,” and has been brought to market by Hampton Products, which has produced more than 1.5 billion locks of various kinds for different brands.

The product line consists of two models. One is a full-sized 43mm padlock, which stores up to 10 fingerprints for multiple user access and features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can last over six months on a single charge, with built-in LED indicators for easy programming and operation, a micro USB cable for recharging, and traditional backup keys. It retails for $69.99. The other is a TSA Travel/Luggage Lock, which brings biometric unlocking to the luxury travel market. The locks are small, sleek, and fashion-forward, the company says, and also approved for Travel Sentry and accepted by the TSA, allowing travel without keys. It also features a lithium-ion battery, and stores up to five fingerprints. The TSA lock’s MSRP is $49.99.

Fingerprint lock box

CBD-based products company Hakuna has launched a Fingerprint Lock Box for secure biometric storage of cannabis, hemp, and CBD products.

The announcement was made by Sun Kissed Industries, which is in the process of acquiring Hakuna, which has 110 established retail distribution partners in more than 20 states, to be a subsidiary.

The companies note that recent research from MarketsandMarkets estimates the biometric sensing market will double to $7.1 billion on a 15.3 percent CAGR through 2024, while sales of legal cannabis in the U.S. are expected to reach $13.6 billion in 2019, a 32 percent increase from a year earlier, according to New Frontier data.

“I’m truly excited that the Hakuna acquisition appears set to be finalized sooner than expected as Hakuna continues to roll out powerful new products,” stated Carl Grant, CEO of Sun Kissed. “As we get ready to close the acquisition, our attention will quickly turn toward marketing the many award-winning top-tier products Hakuna has crafted, with this beautiful new state-of-the-art biometric sensing Fingerprint Lock Box representing yet another success story as shoppers get set for the Holiday Season.”

The Fingerprint Lock Box includes a back-up metal key, and a removable wireless charger located at its base.
