Acuant adds passive liveness to face biometrics system for omnichannel identity verification

Acuant has added advanced passive liveness testing to the biometric facial recognition capabilities of its FaceID and WebID offerings for omnichannel identity verification, the company announced.

“We are excited to bring these innovative solutions to the market and our partners. Acuant remains focused on providing best in-class identity proofing solutions that are simple and secure for all channels,” said Acuant President and CEO Yossi Zekri in a prepared statement. “We recognize the importance of not only being able to transact on any channel, but across channels in one workflow as with WebID. We aim to prevent and reduce fraud while bridging major gaps for businesses when it comes to enabling trusted transactions that are user friendly.”

Acuant’s Trusted Identity Platform supports different transactions on the Web/HTML, and now includes advanced passive liveness with facial recognition in all three Acuant FaceID solutions. There is no action necessary to confirm liveness, all a user has to do is take a selfie, which is matched to their ID.

Advanced passive liveness is part of FaceID’s Standard and Government classes and supports all digital channels. The upgrade is in line with U.S. National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) guidelines has been declared compliant with presentation attack detection (PAD) standards by iBeta, and blocks presentation attacks from printed images, masks, recorded video or synthetic video.

ID R&D’s passive facial liveness technology was declared compliant with PAD Level 1 standards by iBeta earlier this year, making it one of two passive liveness technologies confirmed compliant, though Acuant does not name its liveness supplier.

Acuant is preparing to launch WebID for real time identity verification across mobile and web channels. Users can verify their identity with AssureID document authentication and FaceID biometric facial recognition with liveness test via HTML (desktop) and mobile. WebID offers easy API integration.

In January, Acuant partnered with Nikia Dx to provide it with its biometric identity verification technology to increase financial service security and ensure regulatory KYC and AML compliance. In December 2019, the company reported double-digit revenue and identity proofing growth.
