HuskyLens AI camera recognized with global innovation award

DFRobot’s HuskyLens AI vision sensor for classrooms, which features facial biometrics capabilities, has been recognized with a global award for science and tech innovation during the third annual Upstyle Awards, the company announced.

The company went through a competitive preliminary round, online voting and a live debate.

HuskyLens is an artificial intelligence-powered camera that leverages image processing algorithms to constantly learn new objects, faces and colors, and is compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, LattePanda, and micro:bit microcontrollers.

“Winning such a significant, global award that celebrates innovation for the progress of mankind is a dream come true for us,” Ricky Ye, CEO of DFRobot said, in a prepared statement. “We pride ourselves on intelligent innovation and helping to create a better future should be a goal for every technology company. We use this focus as a driving force behind all of our products.”

HuskyLens has a number of in-built algorithms for facial recognition, object recognition, object tracking, line following, color detection, and tag detection that can be used without previous algorithmic knowledge. Users can switch between different algorithms with one click, the company says. The tool is meant to help teachers leverage AI technology in STEM education.

The camera was launched at the Bett 2020 in London. DFRobot is already developing multiple AI projects to be rolled out in the education sector, including a kit that integrates HuskyLens with educational equipment such as micro:Maqueen robots.
