Tech5 releases digital identity toolkit for touchless biometric digital IDs

Tech5 has introduced the T5 Digital Identity Toolkit for touchless biometric digital ID issuance, management and offline authentication to streamline government and enterprise processes during and post-COVID-19, the company announced.

The toolkit features biometric capture, liveness detection and a compression algorithm for facial images, and biometric matching technologies for mobile devices. It also includes T5-IDencode, developed in partnership with HD Barcode, which leverages barcode technology for personal and biometric data storage, management, and offline authentication through fingerprints or facial recognition.

Tech5 partnered with HD Barcode in May, when they announced the latter’s 2D barcode technology for biometric systems would be integrated with T5-IDencode.

“We see tremendous opportunity in partnering with Tech5 as the T5-IDencode will be the first in the world to combine multi-biometrics, color photograph, and text in our patented 2D barcode technology, all without requiring the use of the Internet or a database,” said Gary L. Parish, Managing Director of HD Barcode LLC, in a prepared statement. “This ability will address a wide range of use cases that are highly relevant today. Our companies are driven by the same vision – for IDs to be fully digital and managed exclusively by the citizen.”

The global health crisis has changed the requirements for ID management, generating an increased need for digital identities to secure online environments and replace physical documents, Tech5 says. Citizens now have complete control over their personal data thanks to the biometrically-secured decentralized digital ID. ID holders can choose who has access to their data without the need for online verification.

“Storing the Digital ID in a barcode provides both citizens and governments with significant benefits. The barcode can be generated in seconds, dispatched and delivered online securely, and is also flexible and reduces total cost of ownership. All of these features serve to drive its adoption,” said Machiel van der Harst, CEO and Co-founder of Tech5, in a prepared statement.

T5 Digital Identity Toolkit can be used as proof of identity in digital onboarding for financial transactions, biometric OTP, paperless travel, social welfare, subsidy programs, healthcare, and document security. Another integration use case is the ‘Digital Immunity Passport’ or ‘Digital Immunity Certificate.’ Tech5’s biometric technology was recently integrated into a platform for re-opening air travel.

“We are aggressively and continuously working on technologies that will facilitate the next critical phase of bringing life back to some level of normalcy, which will be as important as controlling the pandemic itself,” said Rahul Parthe, CTO and Co-founder of TECH5, in a prepared statement. “We believe that the T5 Digital Identity Toolkit has the potential to become a platform for a true ‘Citizen’s Digital ID’ that is in line with our new, fundamentally digital reality, as well as becoming an innovative and cost-effective solution for all the digital ID needs including digital immunity passports”.

The T5 Digital Identity Toolkit is available to Tech5’s partner and customer base.
