ID4Africa webinar series, EAB and Biometrics Institute virtual events and Suprema showcase coming in September
Stakeholders in the biometrics industry and digital ID community are planning to come together for a series of virtual events in September, with webinars from ID4Africa, virtual conferences held by the EAB and Biometrics Institute, and a solution showcase event from Suprema.
ID4Africa will present the next two webinars in its highly successful 2020 series, each moderated by ID4Africa Executive Chairman Dr. Joseph Atick. The series has so far included four well-attended and received webinars featuring stakeholders from Africa’s digital ID ecosystem and addressing specific questions facing identity authorities.
A ‘Spotlight on Face Recognition Technology’ will be held on September 3, 2020, with U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Biometric Standards and Testing Lead Patrick Grother presenting a keynote, and Teki Falconer of the Africa Digital Rights’ Hub in Ghana and Pam Dixon of the World Privacy Forum in conversation.
Case studies will be presented on mobile, travel, national ID and elections use cases by representatives from Veridos, SITA, Tech5 and Innovatrics, respectively.
In a special session commemorating International Identity Day on September 16, ID4Africa will hold a ‘Spotlight on Inclusion,’ featuring experts from the development community, civil society, and the private sector.
Alan Gelb of the Center for Global Development, Tariq Malik of UNDP, Christabel Onyejekwe of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBBS), Jaume Dubois of Thales, Ken Okong’o of GSMA, Bary Cooper of CENFRI, and Mustafa Mahmoud of Namati will participate in the spotlight on inclusion.
EAB virtual conference
The European Association for Biometrics (EAB) is holding its Research Projects Conference as a virtual conference on September 14 to 16, with the European Biometrics Research, Max Snijder, and Industry Awards following the events of the last day.
The EAB Research Projects Conference is organized in cooperation with the Joint Research Center (DG JRC) of the European Commission, through its Cyber and Digital Citizens’ Security Unit.
Among the highlights, a keynote presentation will be delivered by European Commission Director for “Digital Industry” within Directorate-General CONNECT Lucilla Sioli on the EC’s position regarding near-term AI algorithm deployment in Europe, focusing on biometrics. A training session for biometrics practitioners on ISO-IEC standards, presentations by 22 EU-funded projects, and a round-table on “Fairness, bias and ethics in Biometrics will also be among the key items on the agenda.
The conference is the largest on biometrics and identity management research funded by the European Union. It will also be collocated this year with the IEEE BIOSIG Conference and TeleTrust Biometric Workshop as part of the Darmstadt biometric week.
Last year the event included more than 100 participants from academia, the industry, and public institutions.
Biometrics Institute U.S. event
The Biometrics Institute US Online Conference will be held on September 21 and 22, to explore the challenges posed by bans, privacy concerns and demographic performance differences, along with heightened interest in contactless biometrics, hygiene issues, and ethical and responsible technology use.
The aforementioned Patrick Grother, George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, USCIS Deputy Chief Brian J. Broderick, Georgetown University Center on Privacy and Technology’s Claire Garvie and FBI Senior Physical Scientist Richard W. Vorder Bruegge will be among the event’s speakers.
Suprema Connect 2020
Suprema will hold its Suprema Connect 2020 virtual event over the course of a month, starting on September 15, with the theme of “Suprema Contactless Solutions,” according to a company announcement.
The event will feature Suprema’s contactless solutions, showcase new products, and include live sessions with discussions on highlighted products and expert perspectives. Suprema Connect 2020 will be focussed on the topics of “Fusion Face Recognition,” “Mobile Access Solution,” and “Access Control Solution.” The first will showcase Suprema’s new FaceStation F2 and Suprema Thermal Camera, the second will introduce a mobile credential solution, and the latter will cover the CoreStation Kit.
More than thirty on-demand videos and live sessions will make up Suprema Connect 2020, including customer applications of the company’s solutions in different scenarios and in-depth technical training videos, as well as interactive sessions and product giveaways.
