BIO-key has been selected by the Southeastern Illinois College to integrate its PortalGuard Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) platform within the College’s IT infrastructures to secure logical access with digital ID.

The implementation of PortalGuard will enable end-users to login with the same digital ID credentials on all their devices connected to critical institutional applications, for a frictionless user experience, according to the company announcement.

The IDaaS platform from BIO-key supports biometrics as either a standard digital ID credential or a step-up security measure.

By partnering with BIO-key, Southeastern Illinois College will now have access to multi-factor authentication and passwordless technologies, thus enhancing its overall access management approach.

The formal launch of the IDaaS version of our PortalGuard platform last fall, has accelerated our ability to deliver best-in-class security capabilities on a very efficient, cost-effective basis,” said Mark Cochran, President of BIO-key.

The integration of PortalGuard within the College existing infrastructures was quite frictionless, according to BIO-key, since the platform was also compatible with the institution’s student information system, Jenzabar, and its learning management system, Canvas.

“Higher Education institutions are seeking security experts like BIO-key to execute their strategic initiatives and meet increasing end-user demands for access personalization and convenience, while addressing the ever-evolving challenges of cybersecurity threats,” Cochran concluded.

BIO-key’s partnership with Southeastern Illinois College fits into the expansion strategy the firm has been pursuing since acquiring PortalGuard in its purchase of PistolStar last year.

Last December, PortalGuard was adopted by railcar leasing company GATX Corporation across its European systems. And earlier this month, the Identity and Access Management system was deployed by the U.S. Justice department division to provide secure authentication and enable logical system access.
