Whoop brings biometric health monitoring to PGA Tour as official wearable
The PGA Tour announced a new partnership with fitness tracking company Whoop to provide live insights into players’ biometrics during the season. The wearable Whoop Strap will monitor athletes’ biometric data and heartrate and broadcast it into the video coverage of the association’s golf events. The biometric data can now be followed through the hashtag #WHOOPLIVE.
Whoop’s newest multi-year collaboration, the latest in a series of high-profile athletic partnerships, is part of a charity initiative that will provide participating players $10,000 that may be contributed to the charity of their choice. Accordingly, Whoop will become the sponsor, and its Whoop Strap the official wearable of the PGA Tour. Based on this agreement, Whoop will supply over 1,000 of its Whoop Strap wearables and health monitoring memberships to players, caddies, and other PGA Tour staff.
The device will measure biometric data used to evaluate and optimize performance, recovery, and sleep while also monitoring respiratory changes in athletes. To support this unique collaboration, Whoop will provide custom content via PGA Tour Active to provide fans in-depth insights into a player’s health metrics. The company’s training and recovery staff will also be present at all PGA Tour events to provide on-site tech support and health training.
PGA Tour Executive VP of Corporate Partnerships Brian Oliver welcomed the new partnership. “We are excited to grow our partnership with WHOOP and utilize their health technology to optimize the way our athletes train, recover, and sleep. Our athletes understand the importance of maintaining their health to ensure peak competitive performance, career longevity, and overall well-being. The WHOOP Strap will help our athletes unlock actionable insights via physiological data to help them understand and prepare their bodies for competition. We’re eager to begin a first-of-its-kind activation at the TOUR that will incorporate player biometric data with defining moments from the golf course to create fascinating content for fans.”
“WHOOP has organically grown amongst the world’s best golfers for years and we are proud to take our relationship with the PGA TOUR and all athletes to the next level,” said Will Ahmed, Whoop founder and CEO. “This partnership is particularly new and innovative in that it will bring heart rate and other engaging physiological metrics directly into the fan experience.”
