SecuGen releases contactless smartcard and optical fingerprint reader dual solution

SecuGen announced it has released its new dual solution, Hamster Pro Duo/CL, which combines a contactless smartcard reader with an optical fingerprint reader that is both FAP 20 Mobile ID and PIV certified.

Previously reported, SecuGen first announced in August it would be releasing a new device that combines a contactless smartcard reader with SecuGen’s FAP 20 certified, optical fingerprint sensor, the U20.

Designed for projects such as National ID programs that require a contactless smartcard to store a fingerprint template, the Hamster Pro DUO/CL features SecuGen’s U20 USB fingerprint sensor that is FBI certified and is capable of capturing high quality images.

The dual mode biometric device combines SecuGen’s larger platen, high image quality fingerprint reader with a contactless smartcard reader in a sllim case that can be operated through a single USB connection.

“We are excited to bring this dual mode biometric device to market,” said Jeff Brown, VP of sales for SecuGen.
“The Hamster Pro Duo/CL was developed in close collaboration with one of our partners. Over the years, we have worked more and more closely with our partners in defining the products we sell. We are very confident that a combination fingerprint and contactless smartcard device will find uses around the globe in today’s rapidly expanding biometrics industry.”

SecuGen’s Hamster Pro Duo/CL is now available and will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, 2015.
