Valid USA wins contract for Washington driver’s license issuance

Biometric solutions firm Valid USA has been awarded a five-year contract for a new biometric enrollment and central issuance system for Washington state driver’s licenses and identification cards.

Having just kicked off its planning and development stage, Valid USA will begin enrollment and card production in August of 2016.

Under the agreement, Valid will manufacture and issue approximately 1.7 million secure credentials each year.

“We are very pleased to be selected by Washington’s Department of Licensing and for our company it’s an important step demonstrating we are a relevant player in the US market,” said Valid CEO Jose Roberto Mauro.

Valid USA will manufacture and personalize traditional driver’s licenses and enhanced driver’s licenses.

The latter will offer a convenient alternative for entering the United States from Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean through a land or sea port of entry, as well as serve as a driver’s permit.

Valid will provide a range of services under the contract, including secure card manufacturing, card personalization and issuance, facial recognition, photo capture, and gated issuance.

The company will implement these services primarily through its proprietary browser based enrollment, workflow management, facial recognition, and card printing software called WebLink ID.

“We are looking forward to working with Valid to continue improving the security of our licenses and ID cards and make our issuance processes more efficient,” said DOL director Pat Kohler.
