Hyundai releases voice recognition-enabled smartwatch app for Android

Hyundai has launched its Blue Link voice recognition-enabled smartwatch companion app for Android Wear on Google Play, which will also be available for the Apple Watch shortly after its release.

The cloud-based Blue Link platform allows users to use voice commands to access a range of features, such as remote start and service information, through smartwatches and smartphones.

“Blue Link subscribers and gadget lovers will appreciate a more convenient way to interact with their Hyundai vehicles,” said Frank Ferrara, executive vice president of customer satisfaction at Hyundai Motor America. “Now you can remote start your car with your smartphone, smartwatch, laptop, desktop or tablet.”

The wearer can tap an icon or use voice commands to execute remote functions, while selecting the microphone icon on the watch activates the voice function to enable execute commands such as “Start my car,” “Lock my car” or “Find my car.”

The app must be paired via Bluetooth to the car owner’s smartphone with the Blue Link mobile app installed on it. Once connected, users can execute a range of remote functions from almost anywhere in the U.S. as long as their smartphone has a Bluetooth and cellular or Internet connection.

The Blue Link smartwatch app works with both first and next generation Blue Link equipped Hyundai models.

The first generation rolled out on the 2012 Sonata and expanded across the lineup through 2013, followed by next generation-equipped models like the 2015 Genesis, Sonata and Azera.

Blue Link Smartwatch’s voice-activated features include remote engine start, remote engine stop (when vehicle is in remote engine start mode), remote door lock/unlook, remote flash lights/honk horn, call roadside, and call blue link.
