Technavio publishes report on global gait biometrics market 2016-2020

Technavio has published a new research report, “Global Gait Biometrics Market 2016-2020”, which estimates that the market will grow at a CAGR of more than 13% during the forecast period.

Gait analytics explores human motion using instruments to quantify body movement, force, and pressure in an effort to identify, track, and treat individuals by understanding their body movements and pressure. Additionally, it finds extensive applications in orthopedic treatments and training athletes.

The report finds that the increasing adoption of gait biometrics system in the healthcare sector has positioned the market in a positive outlook until the end of 2020.

The gait biometric technology is mostly used in the healthcare industry to improve patient analysis and track their physical health conditions in a more precise and efficient manner, according to the report.

Additionally, the report’s analysts have estimated factors like the growing popularity of portable gait analyzers to push the market’s growth in the coming years.

More recently, vendors such as Medical Motion have released portable gait biometric systems, which can be used even in a practice field. This will help boost the adoption of portable gait analyzers among athletes and trainers.

The report segments the gait biometrics market into two end-user groups: healthcare and sports. During 2015, the healthcare sector accounted for the majority of the market with more than a 62% market share in terms of revenue.

Gait biometrics is being used in pathology labs to diagnose medical symptoms for cerebral palsy or stroke, as well as playing a key role in the advanced development of rehabilitation engineering of patients.

Meanwhile, the healthcare sector in developed and developing countries are increasingly adopting gait biometric systems, which will in turn help to drive the market’s growth prospects during the forecast period, the report finds.

The report finds that during 2015, the Americas was the biggest contributor to the market and accounted for more than 47% of the market share. More specifically, gait biometrics technology is being increasingly used in the healthcare, sports, research, and rehabilitation sectors in North America.

Key vendors identified in the report include Motek Medical, Tekscan, Qualisys and Medical Motion, as well as prominent players BioSensics, Body Tech Systems, CIR Systems, Gait Up, Innovative Sports Training, MAR Systems, Motion Analysis, Noraxon and Xsens.

Last month, Technavio published a market research report entitled “Global Biometric Point-of-Sales Terminals Market 2016-2020”, which will see the market grow at a CAGR of close to 27% until the end of 2020.
