Vision-Box announced that 10 million passengers have been successfully processed through its Automated Border Control eGates installed at Australian international airports since last year.

Using Vision-Box’s Automated Border Clearance solution, passengers of all ages and nationalities are able to leave the country by displaying their passport and looking directly at a camera to clear the border.

It took approximately 12 months to install an unparalleled Automated Border Control infrastructure in Departures Halls at eight major airports throughout Australia, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Cairns and Darwin.

All eight major Australian airports now have the latest self-service biometric technology for border control, offering departing passengers with a passenger-centric experience at the 83 SmartGates installed.

“This milestone delivers on Australian government’s commitment towards streamlined border control processes and enhanced border protection capability at our international airports,” said Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton, adding that the technology is “critical to improving our ability to accurately confirm the identity of travelers”.

In fact, the commitment with the latest generation of Automated Border Control eGates in 2014 was a determined step to strengthen Australian borders.

SmartGate has seen widespread passenger adoption as self-service passenger processes have gradually become the new standard at international airports in Australia.

The ABC eGates is designed for passenger convenience, including cameras that automatically adjust to the passenger’s height and innovative patented document feeder technology promotes the highest reading success rate.

The software suite installed by Vision-Box integrates passenger identification (biometric verification, passport checks, passenger assessment and profiling) with real-time monitoring of SmartGate operations.

Using the integrated border management platform, border force officers have greater control of the entire end-to-end security infrastructure and quickly respond to any crucial situation or threat.

“This project is simply the most remarkable SmartGate roll out ever at a global scale, with state-of-the-art biometric technology intensifying border security at all major exit points of the country,” said Miguel Leitmann, CEO of Vision-Box. “We are very proud to have worked cooperatively with the Australian Border Protection authorities in implementing this project of reference and providing the best tools for major international airports to boost their capacity and manage increasing traveler volumes.”
