DataWorks Plus launches mobile device for law enforcement with Integrated Biometrics sensor

Law enforcement technology provider DataWorks Plus has developed an all-in-one mobile verification device called the Evolution with Integrated Biometrics’ Columbo fingerprint sensor to bring identification and verification by law enforcement to the point of contact.

The Evolution is a rugged, multimodal handheld device which integrates a Galaxy Android smartphone with a camera for facial recognition, the FBI FAP-30 certified Columbo sensor, and secure mobile data service (SMDS) to comply with the FBI’s CJIS security policy, according to the announcement.

“From booking and enrollment through verification, the sooner officers can identify dangerous people, the lower the risk to the public,” said Stephen Thies, Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Biometrics. “DataWorks Plus’ Evolution makes mobile multifactor identity verification a practical solution. That’s why thousands of officers already use it every day. The device provides WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity, and also provides immediate confirmation of the identity of a suspect or victim at any location in the U.S. covered by a cellular connection from Verizon or AT&T.

“While designing the Evolution device, we knew it required an exceptional FBI certified fingerprint sensor that was not only accurate but also tough enough to handle anything cops encounter in the field,” explained Brad Bylenga, General Manager of DataWorks Plus. “At the same time, the sensor had to be small enough to fit in a handheld device, and able to run for hours without a separate battery pack. Integrated Biometrics is the only company whose sensors meet that description. Integrated Biometrics announced in February that it has partnered with Grupo Neoyama to supply and support customers in Brazil.
