Egis fingerprint technology featured in Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+

Egis Technology announced the integration of its ET510 fingerprint sensor with Swipe Enroll on Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones.

Debuting on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ devices, Swipe Enroll allows the user to enroll their fingerprint with one simple swipe which takes only one second while the conventional touch enroll requires 16 to 20 touches, taking 20 to 50 seconds of time.

“Egis continues to drive innovative fingerprint technologies,” said Steve Ro, Chairman and CEO of Egis. “We are glad to be marking another important milestone with ET510 and Swipe Enroll featured on Samsung’s newest flagship Galaxy S9 and S9+.”

While Egis has previously supplied fingerprint sensors to Samsung for its Galaxy A-, C- and J-series smartphones, market watchers say cutting into the supply chain for Samsung’s high-end Galaxy S-series will enable the Taiwan-based fingerprint sensor supplier to generate significant profits.
