Synaptics voice technology powers Alexa functionality in new televisions

TCL Corporation has announced a new line of smart televisions featuring Synaptics’ AudioSmart far-field voice (FFV) technology to power built-in Amazon Alexa functionality. AudioSmart FFV digital signal processors (DSPs) are integrated with the TVs to enable users to control them with their voice through Alexa.

“The new TCL televisions featuring Amazon Alexa and Synaptics’ AudioSmart technologies are designed with the same objective in mind: to leverage innovation to enhance how people experience the products we make,” said Bryan Huang, director of Product Center at TCL. “Adding far-field voice recognition to our TV lineup provides consumers with a more natural and convenient viewing experience.”

Features of AudioSmart FFV include voice barge-in, which uses full-duplex acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) to allow the DSP to detect the wake word even at high volumes, omnidirectional voice detection even if other noise comes from the direction of the user, and energy efficient voice functionality.

“TCL is demonstrating once again it’s on the cutting-edge of consumer electronics by designing AudioSmart technology into its new line of televisions,” said Saleel Awsare, corporate vice president and general manager, Audio and Imaging Business at Synaptics. “Thanks to its unmatched voice-command accuracy and enhanced features, AudioSmart enjoys wide-ranging applicability throughout the smart home and beyond.”

AudioSmart was recently selected by Baidu to enable voice capabilities on its DuerOS Mobile Accessory platform. The voice technology deployments reflect the greater diversification President and CEO Rick Bergman referred to as part of the company’s transformation in a recent earnings announcement.
