HID launches miniature device for privacy-preserving age checks with mobile ID
HID Global has launched a small device called the HID goID Simple Verifier to enable anyone to quickly perform an age check of an individual carrying an HID goID mobile ID on her or his smartphone with a single click.
The HID goID Simple Verifier connects with mobile devices through Bluetooth, and no additional action is required. The device confirms the age of the HID goID user, without sharing additional personal information, according to the company announcement.
“The Simple Verifier is ideal for institutions and private sector establishments such as bars, clubs and any entity that must verify customers’ ages before permitting entry or the purchase and consumption of alcohol,” says Steve Warne, senior director of product marketing for the Citizen ID business with HID Global. “In addition to enabling the private sector to combat fake ID attempts, the latest addition to HID goID is a powerful digital verification tool that supports governments’ broader age-restricted products and services initiatives geared towards protecting the health, safety and well-being of minors.”
The device is small enough to be carried on a keyring or in a pocket, the HID says.
The company extended the capabilities of HID goID with an SDK for developers, a gateway for provision mobile IDs with local or cloud management, and an ID management software suite last December.
