Vision-Box biometric technology launched for Digi Yatra at Bengaluru airport

The first phase of a curb-to-gate biometric system from Vision-Box have been implemented at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru (BLR) under the Digi Yatra Seamless Flow initiative and a partnership with Indian domestic airline Vistara.

The early live launch of the registration to boarding solution based on Vision-Box’ One-ID biometric platform and the Orchestra enterprise solution enable paperless travel with self-boarding. The final phase of the deployment is expected to be completed early next-year, as the largest end-to-end paperless biometric program in Asia, according to the announcement, with more than 350 passenger touchpoints at BLR Airport Terminal 1.

Passengers on Vistara’s Bengaluru to Mumbai flight will be first to utilize the technology to pass through the process without showing travel documents at each touchpoint, through an integration of Vistara’s Departure Control System with the biometric technology. The airline plans to extend the technology to all flights at BLR Airport by October, 2019.

BLR, which is operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), has been leading the push to implement Digi Yatra biometrics.

“BIAL is extremely excited to rollout this Digi Yatra-based biometric technology that has the potential to make the passenger experience at the BLR Airport seamless, secure and enjoyable,” says Bangalore International Airport Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Hari Marar. “As the gateway to a new India, the BLR Airport would like to be a frontrunner amongst next-generation airport operation.”

“There is an increasing need to offer seamless experiences and, as a pioneer in the airport technology domain in India, BIAL is committed to offering innovative ways to simplify the passenger journey, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, security and privacy. A select few passengers now have the opportunity to experience this sophisticated technology as part of this rollout.”

Hari also says that following a trial of the end-to-end process, it will be extended to BLR Terminal 2.

Vision-Box says its Orchestra platform runs Seamless Flow operations around the world, in accord with IATA’s One ID concept. It combines Identity Management as a Service features, certified Common-Use connectors, tier one biometric algorithms, artificial intelligence and deep learning, and user experience and human-to-machine interfaces, the company says. The BLR Airport platform was built according to Privacy by Design principles, and Orchestra is the only identity management platform certified for Privacy by Design by the Centre of Excellence at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.

Most importantly, it will become a major growth handler for BLR, by enhancing capacity, efficiency and security, while offering a modern experience for passengers”, comments Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann.

Among numerous airport deployments announced this year by the company, Vision-Box technology was recently rolled-out to Norwegian Air flights at LAX.
