Veriff releases NFC identity verification tool for biometric passports

Online identity verification system Veriff has released a near-field communication (NFC) verification tool to validate ePassport-compatible IDs, writes HelpNet Security.
The Estonian startup delivers digital verification of biometric documents for all devices including iOS and Android-enabled, provided they have an integrated reader, to deliver a seamless, faster and more secure travel experience. The data is read directly from the chip embedded in most biometric documents around the world, and can immediately detect fraud attempts.
“As soon as the latest iOS version was released, our team prioritized adding an NFC functionality that could verify ePassports and NFC-enabled IDs,” says Kaarel Kotkas, Veriff CEO and founder.
“With this new digital verification tool, we can verify a person’s identity document in a matter of seconds. Not only does this make our mobile verification flows more convenient, but NFC verification is also a much more secure method of data validation.”
According to Forecasts from Technavio, the global market for ePassports will grow by 21 percent CAGR to $23.93 billion from 2019 to 2023, driven by demand for multimodal biometrics to support security efforts at airports. More than half of the expected growth will come from the APAC region.
