BioConnect launches innovation hub to develop advanced biometric security solutions

BioConnect has launched a innovation hub in Toronto called BioConnect Labs, which leverages the company’s R&D growth engine to focus on biometrics-based security innovation, the company announced.
With support from customers and a $3.9 million investment from FedDev Ontario, BioConnect has been working on developing BioConnect Labs for the past two years. The project involves BioConnect’s customers and partners, along with universities and is supported by government investments in innovation. To start, the focus will be on projects related to Frictionless Movement and Access, Automated Learning and Data, Operating Systems for Physical Access and Security, and Open Standards for Portable Identity Banks.
Led by Todd Finch, Head of Labs, and Courtney Gibson, Technology Head and BioConnect CTO and CISO, a number of cross-functional experts will be part of the hub to work on all project stages such as incubation and development.
“BioConnect has an amazing culture of innovation that has fueled a passion to deliver world-class customer-centric solutions in the biometric security industry for over a decade,” said Finch. “With the launch of BioConnect Labs, we can accelerate new innovations and custom solutions for our customers and partners by leveraging Bioconnect’s platform and thought leadership with today’s emerging technologies, the possibilities are limitless.”
“BioConnect’s vision is to build better security – for people, for the places they work, and for the work that they do in the digital world. Our partnerships have allowed us to create some truly-unique solutions – ranging from automated assistants for physical access control to using modern IT tools to control both doors and desktops,” says Gibson. “All of this is driven by an amazing team of innovators drawn from across the physical- and the digital-security landscape: experts in biometrics, digital security, physical security, hardware and data science.”
BioConnect boasts a portfolio of more than 900 customers and 60 partnerships.
In November, BioConnect was recognized for ‘Best Project’ at the 10th Suprema Global Partner Program (SGPP) conference in Lisbon. Earlier this year, BioConnect’s technology was added to ForgeRock’s Identity and Access Management platform to provide enterprise grade biometrics for secure privileged access.
