iProov biometric facial authentication chosen by NHS to secure remote onboarding
The UK’s NHS has chosen iProov’s biometric facial authentication to improve users’ remote onboarding experience on Android and iOS, the company announced.
Users can log in to the NHS app remotely and securely to make appointments, access medical records and order repeat prescriptions thanks to iProov’s Flashmark facial verification technology. The process involves submitting an ID photo and positioning the face on the screen. After a short sequence of flashing colors, user identity is verified and the NHS app can be accessed.
iProov prevents identity theft and ensures faster access to services from a remote location, the company says. It helps NHS reduce cost and save resources by reducing manual applications. So far, the app has over a million registrations, with more than 60,000 IDs processed during the first week of April alone.
“The NHS login service is now a proven, secure, inclusive and effective way for citizens to verify and use their identity for health-related purposes. We have been very impressed by what the NHS Digital team has accomplished, by their agility and professionalism, and by the boldness of their vision,” said Andrew Bud, Founder and CEO iProov, in a prepared statement. “This is particularly important in the current climate in which demand is unprecedented and the need for convenient and robust remote identity verification is crucial. We are delighted to be playing our part.”
“iOS users are now able to benefit from faster automatic identity verification when creating their NHS login, giving them a single safe and secure way to access their digital healthcare services such as the NHS App,” said Melissa Ruscoe, Program Head for NHS login, in a prepared statement. “Over the past couple of months, we have seen a surge in demand in people registering for an NHS login as they look to manage their health digitally.
“More automated tools like this will help us to improve the experience of our users, increase demand capacity and ensure nobody is waiting too long to complete identity verification checks to gain access to their digital healthcare services,” Ruscoe added.
iProov’s technology has also been deployed to confirm identity in the Home Office ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app that EU citizens can use to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme. Remote user authentication with iProov is used by governments, banks and other enterprises with Genuine Presence Assurance, including the U.S. Department for Homeland Security.
