Evernym selects iProov biometrics and presence assurance for simple onboarding and device binding for SSI

iProov biometrics and liveness checks

Evernym is adding facial biometrics and Genuine Presence Assurance from iProov to its enterprise-grade self-sovereign identity (SSI) platform and consumer mobile app to simplify its onboarding and device binding for personal identity management.

iProov’s biometric authentication and Genuine Presence Assurance technology are being integrated into Evernym’s Verity platform and Connect.Me app to provide high assurance for remote online onboarding, and to protect the critical processes for binding an individual to their device and the digital credentials it contains.

The Verity platform enables governments and private organizations to issue credentials to individuals, as well as accept and verify them, while giving individuals control of their identity and personal data, according to the announcement. The credentials are portable, and allow organizations to deliver more seamless and secure user experiences.

“iProov and Evernym are pioneers in digital identity. We’re setting new standards in security, privacy, and usability,” states iProov Founder and CEO Andrew Bud. “iProov is delighted to be supporting the self-sovereign identity community by partnering with one of its very founders.”

Decentralized identity solutions tend to use on-device biometrics or PIN codes to authenticate the user as the credential’s rightful holder, but this limits the use cases in which they are sufficiently trustworthy, the companies posit. The addition of iProov’s biometric facial recognition with liveness detection protects against fraudulent impersonation, credential sharing and spoof attacks.

“Evernym is constantly enhancing every aspect of our platform and service to meet the needs of our production customers,” comments Evernym CEO Steve Havas. “iProov shares our commitment to security, privacy, and putting users first, and their technology will allow us to take further steps forward in empowering people with control over their personal data.”

iProov announced a prototype of a privacy-preserving digital health credential with Mvine last week, and also a partnership with Acuant to bring its biometric authentication to the latter’s identity verification platform.

This post was updated at 5:55pm on Thursday, August 13, 2020 to clarify that iProov is providing its Genuine Presence Assurance technology under the partnership.
