Securiport introduces multi-modal in-vehicle biometrics for border crossings

Securiport has announced a new biometric product line to automate border processing for seamless passenger flow at land border and border control points.

The new in-vehicle biometric collection (IVC) and in-vehicle biometric verification (IVV) solutions enable both pre-registered and unregistered travelers to be processed without compromising border security, according to the company announcement. The in-vehicle system is expected to drastically decrease wait times for border crossing, with people able to be processed without exiting their vehicles.

The patent-pending system allows travelers in both single and multiple-occupant vehicles to be processed.

Pre-registered individuals can opt in to the process to share the necessary personal data and biometrics securely, according to the laws and policies of the country they are entering. Each individual is then given a transponder which is activated with the bearer’s biometrics as they approach the border control point.

Unregistered travelers can have their travel documents and multi-modal biometrics captured without exiting the vehicle through a rugged handheld tablet provided as part of the solution.

“We have worked closely with our government partners to find an innovative solution that meets the demands of our travelers, especially those people who cross borders several times a day,” says Securiport Chief Operating Officer Leandro Olie. “We are very pleased to be able to provide this novel patent-pending product to create a positive impact on both the traveler as well as the officers who are on constant alert.”

The company says both the collection and verification systems can be operated as stand-alone systems, integrated with border control systems, or enhance Securiport solutions already in use to positively identify and process all occupants of vehicles quickly and conveniently.
