Aware CEO appointed to International Biometrics + Identity Association Board of Directors

Biometric solutions firm Aware announced on Thursday that its CEO and President, Robert A. Eckel, was appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Biometrics + Identity Association (IBIA).

Eckel will now take an active role in support of IBIA’s mission to foster the development of transparent and secure biometric and digital identity technologies.

Given his thirty years of experience in biometrics, secure identity, air traffic control, and defense systems, Eckel’s contribution to IBIA’s cause will mainly focus on the scrutiny and implementation of security and privacy policies.

“My passion has always been to build and lead companies that enable individuals to experience the life we deserve through technology, which includes the ability to Own your identity,” Eckel said, commenting on the news.

“This aligns directly with the mission of IBIA, and I am honored to be elected to their Board of Directors to help drive forward the adoption and responsible use of biometric technologies for managing human identity in a way that remains frictionless for the user.”

Eckel has been Aware’s CEO since 2019 and is responsible for the company’s strategic transformation, growth, and operations for biometric solutions and services for government and commercial customers and industry partners.

The executive is also a strategic advisory board member of Evolv Technology and a consultant for Digimarc Corporation.

Aware at Identity Week London 2020

Earlier this week, Aware also revealed its participation in this year’s virtual Identity Week London 2020 exhibition, which will take place November 16 to 18.

Identity Week London is an annual, international event bringing together experts from different sectors to discuss advancements and issues of digital identity and biometric solutions.

Aware’s contribution to the exhibition will consist of different webinar sessions, focusing on different aspects of biometric identity solutions.

One of them will see Rob Mungovan, chief commercial officer at Aware, discuss with a panel of experts emerging biometric threats compromising today’s identity solutions, with a focus on deep fakes and advanced presentation attack detection (PAD).

Another session led by Kai Imgenberg, director of international sales at Aware, will encourage a discussion on face and voice biometrics, and how the combination of the two can strengthen modern day biometric authentication.

Finally, at the Identity Week London 2020 event, Mungovan will present updates on the company’s Knomi, a passwordless authentication tool combining face and voice biometrics.

Particularly, the session will focus on Knomi’s passive liveness detection capabilities, its flexibility of uses, applications, and use cases.
