Fiji gets Biometric Voter Registration
Logistics for electronic voting registration are being implemented in Fiji for its 2014 election.
FijiVillage.com reports that Elections Office logistic team leader Major Isoa Loanakadavu confirmed CODE Inc. in Canada would supply the system under the Biometric Voter Registration agreement between the corporation and the government of Fiji.
380 kits have been purchased for $3.9 million.
It is hoped that the new electronic voting registration system will minimize election fraud and accelerate the voter identification process. Registration should not exceed three minutes, and will involve filling out appropriate forms, being photographed, thumb printing and the printing out of the identification card. This card will be presented to the polling station for voting in the 2014 election.
