Precise Biometrics to provide mobile smart card readers for US Department of Defense

Precise Biometrics announced it has received an order of 1,100 Tactivo mobile smart card readers from the Defense Logistics Agency within the US Department of Defense, in a contract valued at 1 million SEK (USD $130,373).

Defense Logistics Agency is implementing Precise Biometrics’ mobility solution for iOS devices that enable secure email and browsing capabilities.

Based on the existing Common Access Card infrastructure, the solution enhances the overall usability of the smart card system.

DLA placed the order, which includes Tactivo for iPhone and iPad devices, as well as Tactivo Guardian cases, through Precise Biometrics’ partner TX Systems.

“Tactivo enables US government programs to move forward in implementing secure mobility solutions that utilize the existing PIV/CAC card systems,” said Håkan Persson, CEO of Precise Biometrics. “The solution increases employees flexibility, allowing them to access data everywhere, while still maintaining secure authentication to critical data.”

Tactivo’s line of mobile smart card readers enable governments to implement a convenient and secure solution that allow employees to access restricted data from mobile devices by using their personal smart card.

The smart card readers can be used with a wide range of applications that enable various use cases, including secure browsing, email, and document signing.

Earlier this month, Precise Biometrics launched three new Tactivo smart card readers for iPhone 6, iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2.
