FIDO Alliance appoints new members to leadership team

The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance announced the result of its annual officer election, including the appointment of its new president, Dustin Ingalls of Microsoft, as well as its first executive director, Brett McDowell.

In addition to these appointments, FIDO Alliance also re-elected Bill Smith of PayPal to secretary, Joe Pennisi of Lenovo to treasurer, and Sampath Srinivas of Google to vice president.

The board also named additional vice presidents Ramesh Kesanupalli, Nok Nok Labs and FIDO Alliance visionary, and Sami Nassar of NXP, to address new opportunities for FIDO standards adoption.

Meanwhile, the board recognized outgoing president and former PayPal CISO Michael Barrett as chairman emeritus.

“The crescendo of activity in 2014 around credential theft & payment fraud has resulted in an ecosystem that is clamoring for a stronger solution that’s easy to use,” said Ingalls. “The diversity and broad representation present in the FIDO Alliance today make it the frontrunner to deliver a broad industry solution to these issues.”

The FIDO Alliance said it will continue to expand the FIDO standards for strong authentication throughout the year with new versions that will improve FIDO U2F ny adding mobile and wireless capabilities, including extensions for Bluetooth low energy and near field communications.
