Hoyos Labs announced it has named Dr. John (“Jack”) Callahan as chief technology officer, where he will oversee the development and deployment of Hoyos Labs’ enterprise-ready biometric solutions.

In this role, Dr. Callahan will lead a team of software developers, computer vision scientists and sales engineers across North America and Europe.

As organizations increasingly transition to new methods of user authentication — replacing the previous modes of traditional passwords, PINs and tokens—Dr. Callahan will play a key role in ensuring that Hoyos Labs takes a leading position in biometric identity innovation and provides a robust framework for customers to securely and conveniently store data.

“The transition away from current authentication systems, which are fragmented and extremely vulnerable, will likely prove challenging for many enterprises—especially those in the financial services and healthcare industries,” said Dr. Callahan. “Therefore, it is critical that today’s organizations have access to high-quality products with clear, open standards to ensure deployment goes as smoothly as possible. Hoyos Labs is committed to evolving with the industry by continuously improving user experience and staying one step ahead of threats, and I’m thrilled to be joining such a smart, innovative team.”

Dr. Callahan previously served as the associate director for information dominance at the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research (ONR) through an Intergovernmental Personnel Act assignment from Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory.

He also served as vice president of engineering and CTO of Baltimore-based BDMetrics, Inc.
