Bulgaria introduces compulsory fingerprint recognition for entrance into a hospital

According to Focus Information Agency, it is now mandatory for patients using the National Health Insurance Fund to cover treatment expenses to verify their identity via fingerprint recognition when checking into hospitals in Bulgaria.

“What is different as of today is that the hospitals are obliged to register their activities to National Health Insurance Fund through a registration of patient’s fingerprint identification,” said Bulgarian Minister of Health Petar Moskov. “More than 300,000 health-insured Bulgarian citizens have already registered in the system. There are no more than 100 refusals to register by now.”

Implementing fingerprint recognition was planned for the beginning of October but the deadline was extended due to some medical establishments not purchasing fingerprint readers on time.
