Asli RI and LoginID release biometric authentication platform to secure Indonesian’s data

Biometric verification solution provider Asli RI, also known as Asli Rancangan Indonesia, has partnered with LoginID and released a biometric-based authentication platform for online transactions to prevent data breaches in the local Indonesian market.

Dubbed AsliLoginID, the new platform provides biometric modalities such as fingerprint and facial recognition as authentication alternatives. In December, LoginID received FIDO2 certification for server technology which is integrated with the joint platform. The platform’s cryptographic security also aligns with international standards such as European Open Banking standards, PSD2 and GDPR.

“Asli RI plays a significant role in providing data security for the Indonesian market,” said Simon Law, LoginID chief executive, in a statement. “Partnering with their team aligns with our mission to eliminate the use of passwords and protect customers and their information. We are thrilled about our launch with their team in Indonesia.”

AsliLoginID users include government institutions such as the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the National Police (Polri).

Passwords are no longer considered secure as they are susceptible to a number of attacks including phishing and brute-force attacks, making it easy for hackers to infiltrate a network and steal data. Based on a Verizon report, lost or stolen credentials are accountable for some 80 percent of data breaches and 30 percent of online transactions are not finalized because users forgot their passwords.

The Biometric-Authentication-as-a-Service (BaaS) market is growing in Indonesia, according to the announcement.

The Indonesian government recently announced it was looking into introducing a data protection bill to protect consumer data by addressing data ownership, consumer rights and cross-border data transfers. This legislation is endorsed by AsliLoginID, according to Asli RI commissioner Robert Rompas.
