CREDEBL comes under Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust

The open-source decentralized identity (DID) and verifiable credentials (VC) management platform used by Bhutan’s national digital self-sovereign identity (SSI) system, CREDEBL, is coming under the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust umbrella.
CREDEBL was originally developed as an open-source project by blockchain and SSI developer Ayanworks in 2023. The platform is not only used by Bhutan but also Papua New Guinea’s national digital identity SevisPass.
CREDEBL allows organizations to issue, verify, and manage digital credentials at a scale and is optimized for use cases such as Designed with scalability in mind, it can support national digital IDs, Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs), mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs), academic credentials and others. The project is currently looking for contributors.
Coming under the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LF Decentralized Trust) will help the platform not only receive additional resources and support but also accelerate the adoption of decentralized identity technologies, according to its press release.
“By supporting industry standards like W3C DID, VC, Trust Over IP, DIF, OIDC4VC, ISO mDL and integrating with leading blockchains, CREDEBL is helping lay the foundation for a decentralized identity ecosystem that is secure, user-friendly, and scalable,” the companies say.
CREDEBL is recognized as a Digital Public Good (DPG) by the Digital Public Good Alliance (DPGA).
