Pakistan to assist Maldives with airport biometrics

 

The Government of Pakistan will assist the Maldives with installing biometric border security systems at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

Ibrahim Nasir International Airport is the main international airport in the Maldives. The airport handles about two million passengers annually.

Pakistan and the Maldives came to an agreement during a bilaterial meeting held between visiting Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik and the Maldives Home Minister Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.

Malik said that to further strengthen the security at the airport a biometric system was required. Pakistan as a result offered to help in developing and deploying such tools to improve the Maldives’ border security. Pakistan also offered technical assistance to the country’s police service.
