Amerigroup Florida looks to BioClaim for biometric patient identification

BioClaim has announced that Amerigroup Community Care of Florida will implement its biometric patient identification system at physicans’ offices throughout the state.

For this project, BioClaim will implement the SafeMatch iris camera system from Eye Controls.

“We greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with Amerigroup Florida,” said Scott Kimmel, executive vice president and general counsel of BioClaim, Inc. “They have consistently demonstrated their willingness to pilot and implement cutting edge technologies and we look forward to helping Amerigroup reduce fraud such as phantom billing while protecting their members and providers from card swapping and medical identity theft.”

As recently reported in BiometricUpdate.com, much of the growth in the healthcare biometrics market has been driven by adoption in the private sector. According to Transparency Market Research, the healthcare biometrics market is expected to grow at 33.3% CAGR from 2012 to 2018, with the United States accounting for the majority of the healthcare biometrics market share.

Another recent research report has found that people are generally trusting of some organizations – including healthcare – to use biometrics for identity verification.

“Eye Controls is pleased to take part in this Payer sponsored initiative in concert with BioClaim,” Milan Popovich, COO for Eye Controls said. “The Eye Controls SafeMatch Iris Camera System for Patient Registration and Identification has been successfully installed across the country starting in 2008, and has been seamlessly integrated with a myriad of EMR vendors. This flexibility will allow BioClaim to easily incorporate SafeMatch into virtually any medical practice and will allow BioClaim to provide the payer community with an absolute assurance that the correct patient was identified and treated on a particular day and time, as part of the BioClaim reporting functionality.”
