M2SYS smart fingerprint reader receives FBI PIV certification

 

M2SYS Technology announced that its M2-FuseID “smart” fingerprint reader has received FBI Personal Identity Verification certification.

According to the press release, the FBI PIV certification is a growing industry standard that further assures end users of biometric identification management systems that the “smart finger reader meets or exceeds FBI interoperability standards and quality specifications for civil ID and other commercial applications.”

The M2-FuseID fingerprint scanner is designed to provide effective finger imaging and “liveness’ detection to ultimately prevent fake and spoofed fingerprints. Using “smart” scanning technology, the device captures a high-quality, 500 dpi fingerprint image, along with the unique finger vein pattern inside the finger that results in almost 100% enrollment rates.

The device enables organizations to perform the highly sensitive tasks of biometric data capture, identification, and verification in civil ID, banking and financial services, as well as other markets.

“FBI PIV certification of our innovative M2-FuseID is an important achievement for this unique, ‘smart’ finger scanner,” said Mizan Rahman, founder and CEO/CTO of M2SYS Technology. “Our goal was to design and create an ultra-precise finger reader that extends the versatility, reliability, and accuracy of standard fingerprint readers by allowing end users to capture the fingerprint and finger vein pattern at the same time, capitalizing on the strength of multimodal biometrics for accuracy and user acceptability. Plus, the device features sophisticated liveness detection by simultaneously looking at and below the skin’s surface in a single scan. This offers protection against fake and spoofed fingerprints to ensure confidence in the reader’s ability to accurately identify individuals, especially in places where the highest level of security is paramount, such as the financial services industry.”
