Suprema provides Turkish supermarket chain with biometric employee tracking

Carrefour, a supermarket chain in Turkey, has selected fingerprint recognition terminals from Suprema, that will be used to track employee attendance.

Suprema, through a local Turkish supplier, has provided 500 units of its BioEntry Plus solution to the Carrefour chain. BioEntry Plus is a user-friendly IP-based fingerprint access control device that features easy installation. The solution features an integrated fingerprint and proximity card reader, and offers a full range of access control applications from a simple standalone door control to complex networked access control systems.

Suprema’s solution will replace the radio frequency (RF) card-based system that the supermarket chain is currently using throughout its network of stores.

Carrefour has sought to replace its RF card-based system because it cannot accurately check and confirm employee time and attendance, or properly control physical access using the readers. Further, Carrefour has had difficulty in controlling ‘buddy punching’, a fraudulent practice, where employees clock in truant workers.

The new system will eliminate these problems, along with the danger associated with card duplication, which can easily occur with RF card technologies. Additionally, the use of the new system will improve management and administration efficiency by reducing the frequent issuance of new cards due to employee loss.

Carrefour also selected Suprema’s products due to its proven performance in matching algorithms featuring high verification rates and speeds.

“We’re very pleased to provide our products to Carrefour, a global leader in the global retail industry,” stated Young S. Moon, Vice President of Suprema Inc. “Though the project is specifically for the supermarkets in Istanbul at this time, we expect it will create momentum to bring more opportunities for business expansion and future partnership with Carrefour Group internationally.”
