Next Biometrics receives order for 100,000 fingerprint sensors from smarthome customer

Next Biometrics has received an initial order for 100,000 fingerprint sensors from a a design and manufacturing company within the smarthome segment, which the company will make public when they launch their products later this year.

Deliveries for the sensors will begin in July for completion by November.

The company’s customer target sales are more than 1 million units over the first 12-18 months of operations.

The initial order of 100,000 sensors comes after 12 months of design and testing iterations for the unnamed firm.

The application is related to the smarthome segment and will be distributed by a leading brand name player within the field, said Next Biometrics.

“This order is significant as it further highlights the potential volumes in these ‘Next-enabled’ markets, where our high quality and low cost sensor enables the market itself,” said Next Biometrics CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe. “Looking at the fundamentals, technology and market-wise, NEXT now has access to a larger combined market than any other player in our industry.”

Previously reported, Next Biometrics Group ASA announced that following three months of integration work and preparation, its first Tier 1 design-win client has decided to integrate Next fingerprint sensors into two more of its products.
