Vision-Box ABC eGates installed at Viracopos International Airport

Viracopos International Airport installed Vision-Box’s automated border control (ABC) eGates at the end of 2015 and has already processing thousands of passengers during its first month in operation.

Viracopos is one of the largest air traffic centers in Brazil, with 10.3 million passengers moving through the airport annually.

President-Director of Viracopos International Airport, Gustavo Müssnich commented, “After Viracopos reached a record in passenger volume in a single year, this new technology has arrived to make the airport journey much more seamless and secure.”

The Vision-Box automated border control solution allows for a faster passenger identification process, ensuring both passport authenticity and biometric passenger verification through an automated and self-service process. Passengers control their own journey through immigration and emigration control, without directly interacting with the Federal Police, as long as they are at least 18-years-old and hold a Brazilian electronic passport.

With the ABC eGates, the passenger is identified in just a few seconds using Vision-Box advanced biometric technology. The system compares the facial image stored in the chip of the passengers’ passport against the live captured image making sure that they are the genuine owner of the document.

Since being deployed, the eGates installed at the Arrivals and Departures areas of the airport have processed more than 9,000 passengers. Each identity verification process takes about 15 seconds on average compared to three minutes using traditional control measures.

Federal Delegate Carlos Fagundes Vieira, responsible for Airport Security Police in Viracopos, stated that, “ABC eGates will reduce the time spent by the passenger in immigration control; the entry and exit of Brazilian citizens in the country will be faster.”

Vision-Box recently announced that its Aruba Happy Flow border control project was recognized with “The Radiant Pioneer Award” at the Radiant eID Awards in Asia as the most “pioneering use and application of smart technology” in a public sector identity scheme in 2015.
