ELAN’s fingerprint sensor modules attracting first-tier notebook firms

According to a report in Digitimes, Taiwanese sensor manufacturer ELAN Microelectronics have obtained orders from first-tier notebook firms for its fingerprint sensor modules and are set to start volume shipments in the second half of 2016.

Orders from the notebook industry indicate the expansion of ELAN’s fingerprint sensor business, explained the company. In addition, ELAN expects to enter volume shipments of fingerprint sensor solutions for smart card applications as early as the fourth quarter.

ELAN expects its fingerprint sensor shipments to double to two million units in the third quarter of 2016 and to exceed three million units in the fourth quarter.

Previously reported, ELAN Microelectronics Corporation licensed Precise Biometrics Precise BioMatch Mobile, its fingerprint recognition product for mobile devices. “The agreement with ELAN further strengthens our position as the leading supplier of software for fingerprint authentication for mobile devices,” said Håkan Persson, CEO of Precise Biometrics. “We welcome ELAN as a partner and appreciate the trust they put in us by selecting our products.”
